Also look what just came in the mail!!!!! Yessss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The box is really pretty, and so is the sun-catcher. I only vaguely flipped through the art book but it seemed nice too.

I’m glad that Michiru and Haruka’s theme songs in Crystal both have violin music in them because OF COURSE THEY DO
you know what i really love about eternal eternity though
by GOD, it’s so over the top. you think the title’s redundant, and then the lyrics go on to talk about REPEATING THROUGH THOUSANDS OF ETERNITIES searching for each other in the darkness, fucking red strings of fate, sea metaphors, wind metaphors, extremely dramatic rose petals, holy shit. that is like, seventy boatloads of grandiose destiny shit, and it is amazing. because sailor moon as a franchise has always gone on at length about usagi and mamoru’s miracle romance crossing over time and space, and media in general just loves the destined star-crossed romance trope… for straight relationships. always straight relationships.
but you know what? those two lesbians just fucking NUKED those guys outta orbit with their histrionic destiny yearning. you’ll be led by the moonlight to your love over and over, usagi? that’s cute. now try THOUSANDS OF ETERNAL FUCKING ETERNITIES for size

I try not to be disappointed about stuff b/c lesbians always get the short end of the stick anyway
But honestly, the fact that Haruka doesn’t kiss Usagi in Un Nouveau Voyage gives me life
like
FINALLY
Maybe someday we’ll get an anime version that doesn’t fuck them over completely just because the manga does

Yeah okay I’m not strong
Totally watching Crystal on my own
Thoughts: I miss some of the things from the old anime (why aren’t Kunzite and Zoisite gay anymore??? I feel like they’re pushing the ‘the guardians and the four generals were couples’ thing too hard) but overall I think it’s pretty good. The transformation scenes are still weird, and pretty boring compared to the old ones.
The opening song, despite going against one of the greatest anime openings of all time, still manages to be pretty freaking cool
I do like how, even thought the pace is similar to the manga (aka fast) we are still getting more personality development than we do in source material
I like Usagi and Mamoru’s relationship a lot more this time around. Or rather, I care more, is a better way to put it. I’m glad he gets to do more things, even if that does mean Usagi does a little less.
Also I’m glad that Beryl isn’t just, you know, killing off the four kings like flies this time around, and also that they get to battle her a lot earlier on
I’m not quite done with the first season yet but so far I think there’s a lot of good in it
Is it as good as the old one? I’m not sure. I wish they had merged the manga with the anime instead of going just off the manga. I know there was filler for days but we got a lot of really great character development out of that and it could have been nice to have them pull some of that into the new one
Probably like a lot of people I’ll end up liking the old one better just because I grew up with it but I definitely like Crystal too
I love how sparkly everyone’s eyes are still (though it goes without saying that Luna and Artemis are badly drawn, as always)
Other than the transformation sequences I don’t have a problem with the art style at all. It looks like Sailor Moon, and that’s what matters.
