and granted Binding Blade is already super bland to begin with but Roy is just like, so much worse. the other characters are very one-dimensional and from a writing standpoint he still falls far short of them I just…I just gon’t get it.

it must be a Smash Brothers thing because there’s literally NO WAY IN HELL that people like Roy the next most after Ike based on Binding Blade.

No way. He has literally nothing to offer. Not one thing.

I said during my stream that he’s not even a character he’s a cardboard cutout with the word “hero” written on it in crayon and I stand by that analysis.

Alright well we all know my interpretation of the RGB trio is vastly different from canon b/c I actually pay attention to what they do and say and regard the narration as extremely unreliable so here are some thoughts:

Lyndis: Overall, Lyn is more reckless, violent, and prideful than Hector. I think that people don’t notice because she’s less ‘loud’ than he is but if you compare their dialogue Lyn is actually the more extreme of the two. She is highly self-critical, with an almost fanatical need to prove herself. This comes off as strange to the other characters who basically already view her has being amazing, but in her own mind nothing she does is ever good enough.

I think Lyn must have once had a greater deal of self-confidence, but the loss of her family and the rejection by the rest of her tribe (and having 6 months of solitary confinement in which to ruminate over these things) pushed her into her current state.

Now that she has a second chance, Lyn drives herself extremely hard, most likely out of fear – she doesn’t want to lose anyone else, and especially not to have it be her fault.

(I’m also basing a lot of Lilina’s personality on my interpretation of Lyn).

Hector: Hector really gets the short end of the stick as far as narration is concerned doesn’t he? Granted he is loud and reckless and likes to fight, but these are not his most important characteristics.

The fact is that Hector is just so overloaded in empathy it’s almost ridiculous. Everything he does in the game is driven by a desire to help other people. If you look at the way he interacts with Lyn, with Matthew, with Nils, with Eliwood…Hector is constantly coming around to check up on people. To make them happy if he can.

Hector can be (and is) rude to people he doesn’t know, or people who haven’t earned his respect. But think about what he does: he goes after Lyn with the specific intention of breaking her out of her self-destructive spiral (their supports), he also checks up on her to make sure she’s okay when they’re on the pirate ship, he’s the one checking up on Nils in the desert, he’s the one who understands the implications of Leila’s death (and how many nobles know their spies personally? don’t think I forgot about that!!) and of course he goes on this whole thing to support Eliwood. Hector also doesn’t even balk at having to take up the mantle of Marquess Ostia.

Overall I think he is a very empathetic and responsible person who just needs a bit of polishing.

Eliwood: Well we all know I don’t like Eliwood. I do admit I’m harder on him than he probably deserves because of personal reasons.

Eliwood is probably a good person (ish) but I hardly think he’s the perfect golden boy the game wants us to believe he is. I think, viewing his actions in the game, that he is inclined to be self-centered and manipulative. Granted this isn’t really a bad thing for someone who is going to be in politics. Still I think his obsession and reliance on propriety is one of the strongest factors keeping him “good”.

Some of that might be due to preoccupation and then later due to grief but it seems to me like Eliwood is constantly taking advantage of his friends’ capacity for loyalty and he neither thanks them often enough nor pays enough attention to their needs.

Every time I see something about how “big” “heavy” or “clunky” various FE swords would be (especially Durandal since it’s even in the script) I just………it probably weighs like 6 pounds TOPS and it more likely to be 4 or 5 pounds

Even before I started doing sword-fighting I knew they weren’t all that heavy.

For the record, when I hold a longsword like Brave Roy holds Durandal it’s about the same size on me as it is on him and it’s not too hard to use. (actually that’s about the right size for a longsword to be on a person!) The only reason I tire out when we stay for spadone is because it comes after an hour and a half long spada class and I haven’t developed the stamina yet.

Even so! Longswords are not twice as heavy as a regular sword (about 3-4 pounds) and since you use two hands it feels about the same if not lighter. Roy is short but he wouldn’t have any problems at all using Durandal.

to be completely honest I am a Christmas FANATIC but like, the fact that they’re all armor units (and no new armor march?) does decrease my interest in them

like we already got two new ones with the Halloween banner how about you add actual armor units instead (GIVE. ME. MEG!!!!) and don’t do…whatever the hell this is.

Kira Kira Precure a la Mode is here to battle the darkness of some certain, um, terrible magical girl shows that think being grim!dark is cool and original and “subverting the genre” YOU CAN SUCK IT THAT’S NOT WHAT MAGICAL GIRL SHOWS ARE FOR and you’re not subverting anything you’re just bringing terrible tropes from other shows into a genre that has it’s own terrible tropes already thank you very much don’t let the door hit you on the way out

I don’t think Roy is as bad as Eliwood but I may re-evaluate my opinion as I go

honestly before I just thought he was kind of bland but now hmmmm though if both his father and grandfather were assholes I guess it makes sense
