Back on topic, you might be wondering, Lano: what about the PTSD and other emotional issues

Yeah, that’s a problem. Neither Maleh nor Izare were the most emotionally healthy to begin with and they had an even worse effect on each other for quite a while

Well what happened was that Sam got really irritated at both of them because there were demons to fight and a universe to save and they kept moping and angsting all over the place and generally not doing their jobs

So she and Miss M got together (for once) and made a spell that essentially equaled decades of therapy in the form of a four month long dream-journey coma and when they woke up Maleh was really pissed about being spelled against his will but still had to agree that it was probably a good idea.

They were still distant with each other for a while but that allowed a real relationship to grow between the two of them, which was much better than what had been happening before.

And Sam still hates Izare but at least if he’s not making Maleh cry she can tolerate him.

(the issues between Sam and Izare are extremely heated and Miss M only barely managed to keep Sam from destroying him outright and only did so because she knew that Maleh would lose it if that happened)

After all the bad shit though, Maleh and Izare do go to a tiny little world and live as like…mortals, sort of (they’re still immortal, of course, but they don’t use their powers anymore).

Maleh, who has always been crafty, gets a really sweet loom and makes fabric and Izare becomes The Eternal Sheriff, which somehow no one really complains about.

They take in two orphans – Deion and Gala, and later take in Arvid’s daughter Lishka as well because Lishka is born mortal and Arvid doesn’t have time to deal with a mortal child.

They’re a cute family.

On the other hand, we have Gaealah’s line. During the first age there was Gaealah and her many children (most of whom are not important).

Gaealah – The second creature in creation, Maleh’s “sister”. Mother Earth, basically. She had a bunch of children the oldest of whom is Tamesis and the youngest of whom is Asherah. After a time she went to sleep, deep inside the world and her children began to quarrel and fight. That quarreling eventually led to not only her death and the death of some of her children, but destroyed the universe too. Maleh was Not Happy. He took the broken world and fashioned many worlds from it, and curbed the power of Gaealah’s children. They became the gods and demons of the new worlds, unable to leave their own lands.

Tamesis – Gaealah’s oldest, but hates responsibility. She’s lurking around, somewhere, doing something. True neutral and boring. She was the focus that caused all of the quarreling in the first place and her inability to take responsibility made everything 200% worse. The unwilling mother of Tiamat. She was the only one not punished by Maleh, simply because she did not come out of hiding and he, knowing her hatred of getting involved, let her alone. Unfortunately, her immunity from punishment also passed onto Tiamat and gave her daughter powers that she really, really should not have possessed.

Asherah – She’s of very little importance in the first age, but has a great sweeping love story with a mortal in the second. Originally an ocean goddess, she begged Maleh to make her human and he obliged and even went one step further in making it so that she and her lover would reincarnate together every so often. She’s not important at all. She’s just here because I like her.

The second age saw the rise of Tiamat and her children and also a bunch of terrible shit.

Tiamat – She’s the mother of darkness and monsters (especially Kojandariel), queen of demons and fucking your shit up. She invented blood magic by corrupting real magic and put it in the hands of humans. She has it out for Maleh in particular for no real reason. She dragged the many worlds down into chaos and darkness until she was defeated once and for all (we hope) by Arvid. Unfortunately her defeat only tipped the balance further and thus the universe met its second end. She’s probably dead now but no one is completely sure.

Kojandariel – Tiamat’s favorite son, very powerful and also very clever. He managed to trap Maleh in a mortal body and keep him trapped for several millennia while his mother ruined the universe. This was not a good time for Maleh (though it’s been argued that Izare did more damage than Koja did). Whatever the truth, Maleh left the experience with a mortal heart he was not capable of dealing with, PTSD that no one acknowledged, and an aversion to blood magic so strong that it made him physically ill, thus rending him unable to fight Tiamat effectively. Koja was eventually defeated by Izare, but not until nearly destroying both Maleh and Izare’s world.

Aubrielle – A descendant of Tiamat. Maleh and the other immortals thought they had defeated her, but really she hid in the bloodline of her descendants until she regained enough power to remanifest herself. Aubrielle was the unfortunate victim of this manifestation and continued Tiamat’s work until she was eventually killed by Arvid. Whether or not Tiamat is actually gone is up for debate.

There’s really two lines of importance in Stringworlds and that is Maleh’s line (the Old Gods) and Gaealah’s line (everything else) but we’ll start with Maleh’s side.

In the First Age there was Maleh, the first creature in creation. The Great God. Generally thought to be an embodiment of balance. Eventually due to actions by the other side he became unable to cope with his duties (we’ll talk about that later) and is now enjoying a peaceful retirement with his husband and their gang of adopted hooligans.

In the Second Age Maleh was joined by three others and together they were known as the Four Immortals.

Samalthea (Sam) – She used to be human, and a pirate, but she found a way to smuggle things magically between worlds and the frequent exposure to Forces Outside Her Comprehension ended up making her immortal. Generally thought to be the embodiment of chaos. She’s been known to appear in mortal worlds as both a woman and as a man, and will sleep with anyone she can seduce. By Maleh, she’s the mother of Klaus and Valkan.

Miss M – Created out of the aether, probably to balance against Sam. Generally considered to be the embodiment of order. The only one of the Old Gods who can’t take a physical form in a mortal world. Despite being a creature of pure magic she’s really fascinated with stage magic and illusions and loves to practice card tricks. She argues incessantly with Sam and the only thing they agree about is that they don’t like Izare.

Izare – Originally a human. After two decades of extremely unstable and toxic friendship-turned-terrible-mutual-pining with Maleh he eventually gives up his life to save Maleh from the demon Kojandariel (more on this later) and Maleh rewards him by making him immortal. This is largely regarded as being a bad move but during the second age he was considered the embodiment of justice and the champion of mortals. When Maleh gave up his godhood, Izare followed him and they settled down in a backwater world.

The Third Age is the realm of the New Gods (though Sam and Miss M are still around).

Arvid – The New Great Goddess. She was originally human. Maleh’s inability to fight against Tiamat (more on this later) sent his two sons seeking for reinforcements, as they were not strong enough to take his place. They found Arivd who, in addition to having strong magic of her own, was capable of channeling both of their powers, making all three stronger. However taking a lot of immortal power into your own body does have strange effects. She was at a crossing point between mortality and immortality and could have chosen to go either way. She chose immortal. Maleh likes Arvid and as she agreed to rule alongside his sons, he left the universe to her capable hands. By Klaus she’s the mother of Lishka, who Maleh is raising.

Klaus – The older of the two twins. He’s sort of flighty and reckless. He has a lot of magic power and he works as Arvid’s enforcer. He gets along with both of his parents, and generally everyone else too. Friendly and dumb. Spends almost all of his time in the mortal world, cleaning up problems.

Valkan – The younger of the two twins, and Arvid’s permanent partner. He has less power but uses it more wisely, and so he deals with problems that brute force can’t usually fix. He’s in charge of keeping the stringworlds regulated and separated from the human worlds because the borders are far too lax after everything Tiamat put them through.

ART

So I had three photos from 2004 but they were all the same month so I picked the cutest one.

image

What happened in 2005? We just don’t know. Hey, remember when I used to use the pen tool to outline things instead of drawing them myself? I really digged that variable width pointy outline thing for a bit there.

image

2006 like…anime? Also markers, the beginning of the end. Also, Silverwood (it existed before this but not as humans).

image

2007 is furries, and more Silverwood.

image

2008…honestly I really like this year. The beginning of my golden age. That picture of Aya (January) is still like my fave pic of that character.

image

2009 SILVERWOOD. And some other stuff, I guess. This is when I started experimenting with black and white and grayscale with markers, a style I still like.

image

2010 was one of my best years. I did so many interesting things, like backgrounds exist??? I was really satisfied and happy this year.

image

2011 ehhh not as good but I still accomplished some things.

image

2012 is dwindling, still.

image

2013 is acceptable. I still really love this pic of St Matilda (April).

image

2014 what the hell even this year. Working, working, working, moving. I was tired but still did some shit. I lost scanner capability (for the umpteenth time) in here somewhere.

image

2015 wow remember that year when I actually tried things and wanted to get better? I was way too exhausted to keep that up. Probably my best year?

image

2016 I drew more than I thought I did but really….bad…..but when I do art it’s usually more detailed in color since all I do is character design I may as well give it a little pizazz.

On Tris:

There are two types of emperors in Daemirra, the Divine and the Mundane. Tris is the former, her father Montegro was the latter.

A Divine Emperor will have signs of approval from the Queen of Heaven in their horoscope (horoscopes being essential in daily life, it’s necessary to know which of the nameless gods one can call on for protection. Unlike our zodiac, these are not stable dates but change at random as the nameless gods fight for prominence and thus each child must have a horoscope done for them at birth. All midwifes are also trained in augury, and all of them travel with an assistant to double-check the results)

Tris was born to The Destroyer, her father to The Hunter. It’s much more common for emperors to be born to The Leader, but it’s not set in stone.

It is said that a Divine Emperor must always rule the country, and a Mundane Emperor may only step in if there is no suitable Divine Heir.

Montegro was the oldest of his five siblings. Two of his younger siblings were Divine. Strangely, neither of them reached their 10th birthday. Likewise, a Divine cousin also succumbed to a mysterious illness. Montegro’s other two siblings died in a boating accident. How many of these deaths can be attributed to him is up for debate. And so, he assumed the throne upon his father’s death.

Of course, he would need to abdicate the second that Tris came of age. It’s unlikely that the curse he cast was intended to freeze her in time. Most likely it was supposed to be another illness. An accident. Anything to assure that she did not reach her majority. But certainly the Queen of Heaven was displeased with his actions and Tris remained – eternally youthful, eternally the Rightful Heir. Unable to be rid of her, or to declare her a bastard, Montegro instead exiled her to a country estate.

To give Tris credit, she did wait until her eighteenth birthday before she stormed the castle and had her father forcibly removed from the throne. No one was really sad to see him go.

On Bird:

If the varying races bothered to listen to one another on matters of religion, they would realize that there hundreds of gods puttering around, tweaking things.

Bird is certainly, unknowingly, the daughter of one of these, but which one….not even the six Queens know. She’s one of theirs, they know. Not created, but a true flesh-and-blood child from the days when the Drezhein were the companions and lovers of the gods. There have been far too many of such children to keep track of, even one as unusual as her. She does not have the features of whichever goddess is her mother nor any visible ties to the Drezhein – which her father definitely was.

One thing the Queens don’t have time for is a mystery, thus Bird had her memories removed and was left “washed ashore” in the mortal world. Their only kindness was leaving her in Daemirra, generally acknowledged to be the best place to live.

Despite her memory loss, Bird is capable, intelligent, and hard-working. She and Tris took to one another instantly, and Bird has become an integral sight in the palace.

That’s strange enough – after all, she doesn’t even have a horoscope or a proper name. Even stranger is her affection for Bermuda, whose laid-back attitude and slacker tendencies are well-known. Most people are glad that the children take after their mother.

No one seems to have noticed that reality bends itself to her will at times. Then again, mortals really shouldn’t be able to notice gods at their work.

Empress Tristira, First of her Name, Born Under the Sign of the Destroyer.

Who definitely gets her shitbag dad taxidermied so she can laugh at him.

Some day I’ll draw a picture of Bird that I like and then I can draw both of my cursed ForeverYoungs together, as they tend to be.

The other angle we have to consider is Ithea’s family.

Now, Ithea has as little as possible to do with her family since her parents are abusive pieces of shit and as for Ithian, well……that’s a problem in and of itself.

But Ithian did manage to make something of himself so they travel in almost the same circles and do occasionally run into one another at parties and the like.

We can say that Ithea was…less than pleased to meet Clariet, and Ithian was outright disgusted to find out that not only was she still with Anthem, but that she’d actually married him and, worse, seemed to be enjoying herself.

But they have to play nice when they’re in public, which means Ithea spends a lot more time with Ithian than she would prefer to do, ever.

Somehow, the twins actually get along with Ithian’s daughter so they like, hang out or something. Just because they want to. Gross.

Actually it probably wouldn’t be nearly that exciting because Ithea legit loves her kids and so she immediately gets along with all of their partners (again, good at schmooze and manipulation) and her grandchildren are. So Perfect! Look at these adorable babies!!!!!

Anthem hates or dislikes everyone including at least half of his own children so needless to say he won’t really engage. The exception is Jean. Kaite is, after all, the only one of his kids he really likes (other than Gavin who is safe because he’s Anthem 2.0) and anyway Jean is so sweet and Kaite is obviously so smitten with her that they immediately become BFFs.

Anthem does all kinds of shit for Kaite and Jean and actually sounds happy when he talks about his daughter-in-law and Ithea thinks it’s hilarious.

Thinking about the partners does get even funnier.

I can think of no situation where either Charlie or Tony are acceptable. They’re not acceptable, ever, but they’re still invited. And I can actually imagine that Kylo and Callie are considered to be quite adorable great-grandchildren. (At least Kylo, I don’t know if they’d live long enough to meet Callie but she would be pretty good after a few…initial confusions.)

Cyan came to every gathering with a different man, or woman, and caused a lot of comment. Once she showed up with two men, and since then she has never been allowed to bring a guest.

I’m sure whoever Gavin’s partner is, they’re completely fine.

Jean is fine. She is, after all, from a good family. And seems to have a civilizing influence on Kaite even if they did choose to leave the city and live in the middle of nowhere and probably have a farm or something.

The twins never bring anyone. It’s unclear whether they even date (they do, but have no interest in bringing their dates along to the shark pit that is Anthem’s family)

Cranberries is acceptable, sort of. He’s a college professor, after all. A well-known scientist with multiple publications. The fact that he got their 19yo granddaughter pregnant out of wedlock is never discussed. Ro’s children are a delight.

Through all of these various scandals and issues, Anthem suffers and Ithea smiles blithely and makes some harmless comment about how much she adores her children.
