We can add kissing and motorcycles to the list of things I can’t draw.

That being said, I’m pretty sure that if Sam had been born in a modern world she would have been a biker, not a pirate.

She’s also still the Zeus of my four Immortals, banging her way through the mortal worlds, one one-night stand at a time!

I guess I kind of ran out of steam on the whole femslash february thing. I still have a few pictures to post but no more drabbles written to go with them. Oh well.

Aine, the knight, and Deirdre, the witch, from my novel The Heart of the Sword. They’re pretty cute. A good couple for Valentine’s Day.

In the drabble I was going to write they were talking about how Aine was going off to battle Caliburn with Bryony, not because Bryony wanted her there but because Aine’s younger sister Saoirse is super gay for Bryony and would almost certainly be there getting into trouble. Deirdre was worried and gave Aine a good luck kiss.

Aubrielle laughed. It went on and on, as if she couldn’t manage to stop herself. Taylin could only watch silently, until Aubrielle could regain control of herself. It happened sooner than Taylin would have thought, but somehow still not soon enough. She didn’t think she’d ever be able to get that laugh out of her head again. Aubrielle tossed the knife back towards the body of the raider it belonged to and whirled around to face her.

“All these years…all these years I’ve been so afraid, afraid of everything! They made sure that I was. But if I had known that accepting Tiamat’s pact would have been like this, I would have done it so much sooner. I wouldn’t have had to suffer like I did.”

Taylin couldn’t bring herself to say anything at all. She had always thought that the stories Aubrielle told about her family legacy were just that, stories. But the proof of demon blood was right in front of her. Aubrielle already looked different, less human, than she had five minutes ago. What had happened to the Aubrielle she knew? Poor shy, sweet Aubrielle who wouldn’t have hurt a fly? Where did that girl go when Tiamat took over? So she said nothing. Not that Aubrielle gave her much of a chance to speak.

“Surely you see now that I don’t have to be afraid any more, nothing can hurt me now. Or you, or anyone I care about. As long as you stay with me, I can protect you. No…I will protect you. Always.” Aubrielle held out her hand. Taylin felt as if she were making a fatally bad decision, but she didn’t seem to be able to stop herself. She took the hand that was offered to her, and used it to pull herself to her feet. Then she looked at Aubrielle, taking in everything that was different…and everything that was still the same.

“Till death do us part.” She said.

“Again!” Retta barked as the sword clattered to the floor. Nelli left the sword where it was.

“This is pointless,” Retta lowered her own sword until the tip was just touching the ground.

“Nothin’ that can save yer life is pointless, Jackanelli Shey,” she said.

“I’m an archer, not a swordswoman. If it comes down to fighting then I’ll rely on my bow.”

“This ain’t gonna be like fighting pirates from the safety of yer own beaches. We don’t do archery. Ya won’t be able to bring that there bow with ya onto the ship. An’ besides, this is not about that.” Retta ran a hand through the tangled mane of her hair. “I’m Wild Hyberetta O’Kread. That name means nothing to ya but it means somethin’ out there.” She pointed to the ocean.

“No one will believe yer my first mate if ya can’t even fight. An’ no O’Kread would ever accept any pirate less than the best.” Nelli crossed her arms.
“So you’re saying that if I can’t fence with you then I don’t meet your considerable standards?”

“What I’m saying is…well, if they catch wind that ya ain’t a pirate proper, that yer workin’ for the General…they’ll gut ya afore ya can blink. An’…an’…well, blaze me, girl, but I love ya. An’ I don’t want nothin’ to happen to ya, especially if it’s because I didn’t teach ya right. So, ya pick up that sword an’ try again.”

“Alright, alright,” Nelli said. She used the motion of picking up the sword to hide her smirk. Retta was always full of so much brag and bluster that one could never tell what she thought on any particular matter. But by the time Nelli stood up again, sword in hand, she was as serious as ever.

“You better watch yourself, Retta. Because you may have a reputation out there, but I have one right here. And Captain Jackanelli Shey D’Grayslen is not one to let a pirate beat her in anything.”

“Oh,” Retta said, lifting her sword back into position, “I was countin’ on that.”

May I have your hand, milady?
And we’ll dance the night away
From five till eight till dusk till dawn
And who cares what the others will say.

Would that I could, my general, dear
But that scene will never play.
Imagine the look of the court
If they think you’ve lead me astray
They’ll chase both out of the kingdom my dear,
And our skin they’ll surely flay.

Just one dance, my lovely queen
No matter how risqué
One dance after the ball is through
Where courtiers hold no sway.

Avalbane always dressed for dancing, in full skirts meant for spinning and low heeled shoes. More than that, even, she always danced. She would hum to herself and float around the library with graceful footwork – as long as no one was watching. Brynn loved to watch her. Every now and again she could catch Ava at it, but never for more than a measure or two. Ava seemed to know instinctively when she was there and stopped, ever self-conscious.

At least Ava managed to practice. Dancing was something they had both done, separately, in the spirit world. But now…Brynn felt there was never enough time for it, not when Laurette had all that work to that needed doing. And if there was no time to dance alone, then there was certainly not enough time to dance with Ava, considering the crowded nature of the house and the chaotic nature of their various jobs.

Still, Laurette always treated her servants better than most wizards. Brynn never asked how Laurette had managed to find out – most likely she would have not given a straight answer anyway. But it came to pass that at least once a month Laurette would make up some excuse to get the others out of the house for the day. On those days the record player was always left out, and a bottle of wine sat chilling in the fridge.

Afterwards they would have to clean out the wine glasses and dispose of the bottle, fix the rugs and clean scuff marks off of the library floor, all before the others arrived home for dinner. But a day alone together, a day to dance, was always worth a little cleaning.

With her usual lenience, Laurette never asked them where the wine went, or why her usual classical records were replaced with swing music. She would only smile in that way she had and ask if they’d had a nice day off.

ANYWAY. This is the first of my Femslash February posts. There should be one every other day. And while I know it’s supposed to be a fan thing I didn’t think there’s any harm in highlighting the many lesbian relationships in my own novels because it’s pretty prevalent for me to just…add lesbians.

So this is Brynn Erin and Avalbane, characters from my novel On the Trail of the Fox!

Really hesitant to post this because none of it is my art – I shamelessly ripped it off from other people who did all the work and then just recolored but I spent all night on it so I’m posting it here anyway.

Combining regular FE with Radiant Dawn with a fan project called Immortal Sword and my own judgement I’ve made a tier structure with four tiers for every class and the reason I did this is kind of confusing but thinking about a particular story through a FE lens makes it make a lot of sense so these are the characters in their mock-up classes. Everyone is a bitty baby class except for Aubrielle and the four immortals at the bottom who are all 4th tier.

First two rows are the good guys, third row is the bad guys and the fourth row is only vaguely relevant but look how cute! (Relevant in that Maleh and Sam are Valkan and Klaus’ parents and also were heroes who did all this shit before, I mean).

Just another art post

I’ve wanted to redesign my four immortals for some time so I finally did that. There was definitely some outfit changes here but a lot of it was making characters who didn’t necessarily have to be white not white anymore. And then I had to draw them new character sheets and well.

Putting it here because. Presented in order of age.

image

Maleh is the very oldest creature in existence. He mostly deals with magic and keeping all of the different worlds in balance. He has some difficulty relating to others, immortal or mortal though he’s been getting a lot better with some help from Izare. He’s started taking a more active role in the worlds though he’s still really super awkward when he does it.

Surprisingly he loves children and has seven with Sam (plus one forsterling) – all before he met Izare.

image

Sam is still white because look at her. She’s adorable. Anyway. Sam used to be an interworld pirate until the routes she was using to travel with started taking their toll on her. She ended up immortal. She is still slightly disreputable and likes to stir up trouble among mortals. Ultimately though her heart is in the right place and she usually inspires chaos in a good way. Usually.

She likes to wander and also likes to sleep with as many people as possible, gender and species don’t really matter. Sam is the only immortal who actually takes different genders when in a mortal form. You can never tell if she’s going to a woman, man or something else entirely.

Although she had a horde of children with Maleh she is not maternal in the slightest and was not involved in raising them.

image

Miss M came about sort of in an attempt to balance with Sam. She inspires, not necessarily goodness, but at least order. She and Sam bicker constantly. If either one of them has too much influence in any give world it will become negative and Maleh has to fix it.

Miss M has a harder time taking a corporeal form than the others and rarely appears as a mortal. This makes her the most ineffective of the immortals, much to her dismay. She has a strange sense of humor and a fascination with/love of carnivals and fake magic in magicless worlds.

She gets along better with Izare than she does with any of the others, as she and Sam don’t agree and she finds Maleh a little intimidating. Still she acts a little bit like an overbearing mother for the other immortals and the demi-immortals. She’s always checking up on everyone and sticking her nose into everyone else’s business.

image

Izare is the youngest of the immortals. Like Sam, he was human once. Izare used to be a mercenary. During this time Maleh was trapped in a mortal form by some enemies. Izare helped save him at the cost of his own life. Izare is the only immortal or demi-immortal who had to die to become what he is.

He and Maleh are kind of a thing which is why they wear each other’s colors and are pretty much inseparable.

Izare’s job is largely agreed to be justice. Most of the time, though, he’s simply the champion of mortals. He makes sure that no one – not immortals, demi-immortals, gods, demons, or anything else, mess things up too badly for the mortal realms.

He’s also helping Maleh and Miss M to understand more about mortals since neither one really does and Sam doesn’t give a shit.

He’s the only immortal without magic of his own, though he’s the best warrior of the group. He relies on Maleh to take care of any magical problems that arise.

Since I got my first anonymous ask ever (maybe even my first ask??) about it, I figure at least one person is interested. So I put together my usual pre-nano character design/re-design sheets and I’m going to post them here. Because.

First is Gheist himself:

image

Then all of his dumb golems. ALL of them. There are seven types of golems and Gheist is the only person in history to be able to use all of them. No one knows how or why. But golem’s also have prices, and the more powerful they are the steeper the price. So that’s listed too.

image

Then comes Seneria and Hermokrates. Oh yeah, Seneria is actually the main character. The story isn’t really about Gheist at all. I just like him the best.

image

And last but not least comes Senma who is important to the story in the fact that she isn’t in the story, a fact everyone else is very concerned about.

image

So that’s that. Dumb sketches of main-ish characters and a little bit of world-building. Not too much, though, since I don’t want to give things away.

This is Saint Matilda the Dragonslayer. She’s a historical figure in my novel Mr. Tibbles’ Grand Adventure. Her legacy plays a big role in the novel.

I wanted to draw her because I’m become strangely attached to her. Might even want to write about her someday (just like I want to write about Charlie – Mr. Tibbles’ may end up being the first in a series then??)
