One of the things I’m the most dissatisfied with art-wise is the way I draw eyes and expressions so. I took some OCs and drew their sort of default expressions to practice. Not surprisingly, most of them are Silverwood characters (Ithea, Anthem, Tris, Ro).
I almost left Anthem off because he’s kind of similar to Nelli but then I didn’t want Mahesha to be the only boy so I drew him anyway (also I don’t draw enough men so…more practice).
So I had three photos from 2004 but they were all the same month so I picked the cutest one.
What happened in 2005? We just don’t know. Hey, remember when I used to use the pen tool to outline things instead of drawing them myself? I really digged that variable width pointy outline thing for a bit there.
2006 like…anime? Also markers, the beginning of the end. Also, Silverwood (it existed before this but not as humans).
2007 is furries, and more Silverwood.
2008…honestly I really like this year. The beginning of my golden age. That picture of Aya (January) is still like my fave pic of that character.
2009 SILVERWOOD. And some other stuff, I guess. This is when I started experimenting with black and white and grayscale with markers, a style I still like.
2010 was one of my best years. I did so many interesting things, like backgrounds exist??? I was really satisfied and happy this year.
2011 ehhh not as good but I still accomplished some things.
2012 is dwindling, still.
2013 is acceptable. I still really love this pic of St Matilda (April).
2014 what the hell even this year. Working, working, working, moving. I was tired but still did some shit. I lost scanner capability (for the umpteenth time) in here somewhere.
2015 wow remember that year when I actually tried things and wanted to get better? I was way too exhausted to keep that up. Probably my best year?
2016 I drew more than I thought I did but really….bad…..but when I do art it’s usually more detailed in color since all I do is character design I may as well give it a little pizazz.
So my very oldest art was, sadly, sent to the trash but only slightly younger than that is the actual, physical scrapbook I made of my art (and my friend’s art which I will not share with you) and I keep it because it amuses me so behold:
Supposedly the oldest thing I have but I’m pretty sure this is actually from 2004, not 2001, since early 2004 is when I joined TLKFAA and I didn’t start to draw people until after that.
redraw, I guess! (did I fudge the numbers to make it look better? WHO KNOWS)
As for the aforementioned horses and lions, this is basically all I drew for about 2/2.5 years:
(this one is obviously (to me) inspired by my friend Devin’s art at the time – her art was always a little closer to actual TLK style than mine)
And I’m not sure why I decided to make Vegas green for a small stretch of time, here is him restored to his original colors:
Gryphons, because of course there are gryphons:
And then I found these, aka the very first things I ever drew with markers! Cool!
I distinctly remember getting in trouble for that lion picture because I didn’t know that markers bleed and I got ink all over my previously white desktop.
New daughter.
No name yet. But she’s angry and gay and fights a lot.
The only thing I draw with any regularity is Ithea being a little shit.
I haven’t drawn my gryphon babes in a while, have Princess Sahara.
Johnny was supposed to in it too but he wouldn’t turn out right.
Doodle of Ro for a really delightful Silverwood AU that @tornaloadir is making.
Expect updates sometime in the future, it’s absolutely A+.
I didn’t even finish this b/c I made too many mistakes but I guess it’s still kind of cute so. Happy Holidays! Brynn Erin and Avalbane from one of my many unfinished novels out for a walk together, or something.
Have some nerds. I love, love, love costume design and the costume design for Laero in particular is super fun. These are more typical outfits and less what they actually wear in the book (except Retta) but hey.
Retta: The Marzjen adore bright colors for their fabrics which are usually covered with sea motifs. They wear tons of jewelry, too. Mostly coral in white, pink, or blue. There’s also lilac and yellow coral but it’s rare and if they’ve got that much money they usually jump to much flashier sunstone instead (what Retta has on her belt/earrings) because they love play-of-color and anything flashy. The color of the overtunic contrasts with the undertunic and breeches which are usually black and white.
Kradhi: This is a summer outfit for her, since I usually draw her in winter clothes. The Laero base their outfits to blend into the leaves of the Norforest which range from obnoxiously bright green to navy based on the season. They do a boatload of embroidery, usually geometric. While they mostly confine themselves to blue and green, they love red and yellow and use those colors as accents a lot. And of course Kradhi keeps her ceramic ‘bell’ on her sash at all times, like a good warrior.
Nelli: She usually wears her military uniform, so this is what she would have worn if she went into the free cities on leave. The only concession to her rank is the blue tattoos on her arms (temporary plant based dye, the patterns change but the color has to do with rank). They wear less clashing colors than the Marzjen or the Laero. Most of the accent design isn’t straight embroidery but bead-work instead. The head scarf is usually worn loose, held up with a headband but can easily be converted into a more concealing arrangement in case of sandstorms or just really bright sun.
Also Retta is excited, because she always is. And I hate using this color for Nelli’s skin because it isn’t dark enough but I’m still too lazy to go to the store and get another of the right color….
