TFW you have the killer legs but your husband has the killer tiddy…Honestly this couple is so fun to draw in context of Kvariety situations lol

Twitter version is here! I also tweeted the source screenshot material that I referenced/translated there.

thinking about Lyn (and the other Sacaens) because you see some occasional friction between people who draw her white v Asian v dark skinned and like

I mean the Mongols were one thing, obviously, but there were also the Scythians (also called….wait for it….Saka or Sacae) who were famous for their mounted archers and their female warriors

they were fair of skin and hair

the clothing seems to have both Mongolian and Scythian influences in it so I mean, are they Asian or European? Evidence enough for either one.

There’s also certain groups of Berbers who were famous for their light, sword-related cavalry attacks. That’s Northern Africa, true, and I doubt there’s much conscious Berber influence in FE but, still.

Personally I like them with darker skin just because of how people treat/ react to Lyn’s very obviously mixed blood in Blazing Sword.

obviously whitewashing and representation are big deals in media and should not be lightly overlooked but in this case I’m pretty sure we can all picture the Sacaens however we want and there’s evidence to support it.

Alright well we all know my interpretation of the RGB trio is vastly different from canon b/c I actually pay attention to what they do and say and regard the narration as extremely unreliable so here are some thoughts:

Lyndis: Overall, Lyn is more reckless, violent, and prideful than Hector. I think that people don’t notice because she’s less ‘loud’ than he is but if you compare their dialogue Lyn is actually the more extreme of the two. She is highly self-critical, with an almost fanatical need to prove herself. This comes off as strange to the other characters who basically already view her has being amazing, but in her own mind nothing she does is ever good enough.

I think Lyn must have once had a greater deal of self-confidence, but the loss of her family and the rejection by the rest of her tribe (and having 6 months of solitary confinement in which to ruminate over these things) pushed her into her current state.

Now that she has a second chance, Lyn drives herself extremely hard, most likely out of fear – she doesn’t want to lose anyone else, and especially not to have it be her fault.

(I’m also basing a lot of Lilina’s personality on my interpretation of Lyn).

Hector: Hector really gets the short end of the stick as far as narration is concerned doesn’t he? Granted he is loud and reckless and likes to fight, but these are not his most important characteristics.

The fact is that Hector is just so overloaded in empathy it’s almost ridiculous. Everything he does in the game is driven by a desire to help other people. If you look at the way he interacts with Lyn, with Matthew, with Nils, with Eliwood…Hector is constantly coming around to check up on people. To make them happy if he can.

Hector can be (and is) rude to people he doesn’t know, or people who haven’t earned his respect. But think about what he does: he goes after Lyn with the specific intention of breaking her out of her self-destructive spiral (their supports), he also checks up on her to make sure she’s okay when they’re on the pirate ship, he’s the one checking up on Nils in the desert, he’s the one who understands the implications of Leila’s death (and how many nobles know their spies personally? don’t think I forgot about that!!) and of course he goes on this whole thing to support Eliwood. Hector also doesn’t even balk at having to take up the mantle of Marquess Ostia.

Overall I think he is a very empathetic and responsible person who just needs a bit of polishing.

Eliwood: Well we all know I don’t like Eliwood. I do admit I’m harder on him than he probably deserves because of personal reasons.

Eliwood is probably a good person (ish) but I hardly think he’s the perfect golden boy the game wants us to believe he is. I think, viewing his actions in the game, that he is inclined to be self-centered and manipulative. Granted this isn’t really a bad thing for someone who is going to be in politics. Still I think his obsession and reliance on propriety is one of the strongest factors keeping him “good”.

Some of that might be due to preoccupation and then later due to grief but it seems to me like Eliwood is constantly taking advantage of his friends’ capacity for loyalty and he neither thanks them often enough nor pays enough attention to their needs.

“…What is it?”

“Hector… I’m certain…that… you did not…cry… So, I will… This…is your share…of tears… Don’t say…anything. Just, for a little while, let me lean on you. For a little while…”

“…”

“…Don’t…“

“Hm?“

“…Don’t die… Please, you–“

“…I know.“

Commission from @ormille recreating one of my favorite scenes in Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword in their incredible style. Thank you so much for making this!

lanonima:

Wedding Lyn, a mix of Scythian fashion, fake fantasy Europe sensibilities, and the Lano Twist.

Scythians wore a lot of gold (they even sewed gold plaques to their clothing which is rad but not included here) and a lot of animal motifs! I ran through a handful of choices but in the end I settled on eagle for Lyn.

Men and women generally both wore tunics over pants, sometimes with a long jacket over, and heavy ornamental belts. But this is a wedding so that means a dress, right? I didn’t have the actual colors of green I wanted for the underdress but I think it turned out alright.
