Alright well we all know my interpretation of the RGB trio is vastly different from canon b/c I actually pay attention to what they do and say and regard the narration as extremely unreliable so here are some thoughts:

Lyndis: Overall, Lyn is more reckless, violent, and prideful than Hector. I think that people don’t notice because she’s less ‘loud’ than he is but if you compare their dialogue Lyn is actually the more extreme of the two. She is highly self-critical, with an almost fanatical need to prove herself. This comes off as strange to the other characters who basically already view her has being amazing, but in her own mind nothing she does is ever good enough.

I think Lyn must have once had a greater deal of self-confidence, but the loss of her family and the rejection by the rest of her tribe (and having 6 months of solitary confinement in which to ruminate over these things) pushed her into her current state.

Now that she has a second chance, Lyn drives herself extremely hard, most likely out of fear – she doesn’t want to lose anyone else, and especially not to have it be her fault.

(I’m also basing a lot of Lilina’s personality on my interpretation of Lyn).

Hector: Hector really gets the short end of the stick as far as narration is concerned doesn’t he? Granted he is loud and reckless and likes to fight, but these are not his most important characteristics.

The fact is that Hector is just so overloaded in empathy it’s almost ridiculous. Everything he does in the game is driven by a desire to help other people. If you look at the way he interacts with Lyn, with Matthew, with Nils, with Eliwood…Hector is constantly coming around to check up on people. To make them happy if he can.

Hector can be (and is) rude to people he doesn’t know, or people who haven’t earned his respect. But think about what he does: he goes after Lyn with the specific intention of breaking her out of her self-destructive spiral (their supports), he also checks up on her to make sure she’s okay when they’re on the pirate ship, he’s the one checking up on Nils in the desert, he’s the one who understands the implications of Leila’s death (and how many nobles know their spies personally? don’t think I forgot about that!!) and of course he goes on this whole thing to support Eliwood. Hector also doesn’t even balk at having to take up the mantle of Marquess Ostia.

Overall I think he is a very empathetic and responsible person who just needs a bit of polishing.

Eliwood: Well we all know I don’t like Eliwood. I do admit I’m harder on him than he probably deserves because of personal reasons.

Eliwood is probably a good person (ish) but I hardly think he’s the perfect golden boy the game wants us to believe he is. I think, viewing his actions in the game, that he is inclined to be self-centered and manipulative. Granted this isn’t really a bad thing for someone who is going to be in politics. Still I think his obsession and reliance on propriety is one of the strongest factors keeping him “good”.

Some of that might be due to preoccupation and then later due to grief but it seems to me like Eliwood is constantly taking advantage of his friends’ capacity for loyalty and he neither thanks them often enough nor pays enough attention to their needs.

Chapter 16x

image

Eliwood dice “no”.

image

Fargus, no.

image
image
image

Eliwood. A fine, Eliwood ha saputo Lyn per più tempo. Eliwood ha saputo dei suoi genitori. Eliwood ha saputo dei suoi sentimenti dei pirati. e….Eliwood non parla mai con Lyndis. Mai. Solo Hector parla con lei.

image
image

Lyn……

You can have part of a level because I didn’t beat it yet but, as often happens, this one starts with another round of “Lyn and Hector have flawless ideas”

image

Eliwood is like “why do I even put up with these two I swear to god”

image

I love the fact that Hector knows her well enough to expect she would say that, and has been patiently not saying it just so Lyn can say it first. THESE NERDS.

image

Eliwood is completely done at this point, I guess he just assumes that if he can’t stop them he may as well remind them not to start arguing in the middle of enemy territory again

image

He says as if he’s not going to go with them and keep them in line

image
image

They are WAY too excited about this you are all royalty you can’t just go around breaking into other kingdom’s palaces whenever you feel like it. At least have a little shame or something

image

Even Lyn realizes this is a terrible idea

image

These two are cute. I assume they aren’t cute in Sword of Seals but hey. No spoilers.

image
image

This whole fucking conversation. This whole fucking family. I just can’t.

image

Probably because three teenagers in armor can’t be hidden all that well by a single thicket Hector. I also like how they almost get caught immediately after getting into the garden

image

Also I can’t tell if he’s concerned or excited to test his strength against Bern. With Hector it honestly could go either way.

OKAY this is a big one because it’s two chapters, and includes the Lucius/Raven C-Support AND the saddest scene in the whole game (to me)

Gotta check up on the husband

Lucius NO!

Not the best way to respond to the previous statement, Raven

You notice things?

How many times do I need to tell you to leave Hector alone

Lucius hasn’t given up on you yet, Raven

[talking about Raven’s parents]

RAVEN

Lucius is so sweet like this boy has been through some shit in his life and he just…he doesn’t understand hatred

Not to forget, just to move on with your life dude. You and your sister are still alive. The house still stands

Lucius doesn’t even have enemies

Raven you idiot that’s not what he’s talking about (but I’m a sucker for physically strong characters acknowledging that there are other types of strengths they may lack)

LOOK AT HIS FACE. LOOK AT HIS FACE AND SAY HE DIDN’T CARE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY. RAVEN

(I don’t want to lose you too, idiot)

I feel like Raven suffers from some sort of inferiority complex b/c he’s always low-key trying to get Lucius to leave

Could you listen for two seconds?

The face of someone not giving up yet

Lyn’s not having any of that shit

Hector please

The two men are so confused about this

Also man, no one has asked about Nils in a while

We can’t leave her with just pirates for protection get with the program

She’s so sad that they’re just not understanding why Ninian has to come

Lyn…

I like Hector acknowledging how much that cost her to say

LEILA

Noooooooo

Spies should be better at lying

…*getting the tissues ready*

This is what I’m going to say when I die

😥

There’s being a bad guy and then there’s being an asshole and this is just excessive. Look at your life. Look at your choices.

I like how often these two just have their own private conversations. I think more than either one of them has with Eliwood

You tell him girl

noooooo

Poor Leila

😥

Seriously everyone talks about what an asshole Hector is but how many lords would be on a first name basis with their spies and actually know all of the stuff going on in their lives?

Look at that stupid smile, look at him trying to fool them…Matthew my poor child…

😥

A BIT LATE TO THIS PARTY, ELIWOOD

God this shit destroyed me as a young child and I still…MATTHEW

The smile finally goes away…he can’t keep trying to hide. And Hector doesn’t even hesitate.

Lyn just wants to help

And Hector goes to stand with her (and also say his favorite swearword)

Hector feels this pain so much like most lords wouldn’t really associate with people like Matthew and Leila – they have a spymaster for this but he knew them and worked with them and cared about them so much (I know he’s rude and brash but I think this is why other lords insult Hector so much. He’s not like them, he doesn’t put on airs or keep himself apart from his employees and his people)

Lyn feels upset too because she comes from a culture where honor is very important. She may have only known Leila for a few minutes but she still feels her death, and Matthew’s pain as someone who has suffered losing people they care about in a very dishonorable way

I feel like Eliwood doesn’t really understand the way they feel both because he’s never really lost anyone, and also because he is a very proper noble. He’s not as friendly and common as Hector, and he wasn’t raised as a commoner like Lyndis so I don’t think he understands why they’re upset other than just at the concept of what happened.

And then this asshole shows up

Just pointing back to where Lyn grew up like…this guy is an assassin, he’s one of the bad guys, and he still has as strict sense of honor. I don’t think he would have agreed to display Leila’s body like they did

And again another moment that could have been sexist, and wasn’t. This isn’t about her being a woman and he’s not going to let her leave. This is about a shared culture, and he’s going to let her die fighting

Again with that fake smile, Matthew. You aren’t fooling anyone

See again: Hector is a big softie. Also clearly Matthew doesn’t want to be treated like he’s suffering – he can’t smile and pretend he’s fine with they’re drawing attention to his loss

Hector tries so hard!!!

😥

And he does! Just like with Lyn, Hector is pretty quick to pick up on how people need to handle emotional things.

Matthew……. 😥

Matthew loved her, but there are wars to win and jobs to do and he just can’t stop yet

If you don’t have Lyn finish off this boss….why?

I love this! He respects her so much, as a Sacaen, as a strong opponent…I know he says this to everyone but I like it better coming to Lyn (especially since I fought him using the Mani Katti)

Hector asking the real questions

She has faith in his honor still, based on how they interacted and Lyn is such a sweetheart, again

And again, Hector stepping up. Arguments aside, I think he does respect Lyn a lot and so, if it’s good enough for her it’s good enough for him and omg these two

A start to another glorious level~

This is the boat level. There’s always a boat level. Always.

Lyn: Wtf are you doing come do something useful for a change

The plot thickens!

Hector we need to talk about when it is and isn’t appropriate to mock people. Your friends? Fine. A bunch of pirates who are only taking you to a cursed island because they thought it would be fun? NOT FINE.

I’m pretty sure Hector gets told to stop talking more than any other character in this game, and this game has Serra in it

O hai we haven’t seen you for a while

Nah, I just guessed her name. She looks like a Ninian, doesn’t she?

Ah yes, seven levels ago. Those were the days

Rude

My feisty children, so ready to fight!

Important things:

image

Lyn bitching out Hector the first time they meet

image

Pretty sure this is how every argument they ever have goes. Lyn: valid point. Hector: WHAT??!!!

image

Eliwood the good friend

image

She’s like, sure, whatever

image

What a beautiful start to a relationship

Also look who showed up for like two seconds:

image

I think out of all the NPCs, Leila is my favorite.
