Anyway I was thinking that there’s a certain amount of hypocrisy in saying that I hate the obsessive personality types like Camilla and Tharja, while at the same time saying I love Soren second only to Lyn and find Faye only mildly annoying SO here’s why:

There’s two important things that separate Soren from Camilla and Tharja. One, his obsessive behavior has a clear root in his backstory, and his backstory is important to the game. Does this excuse him? No, but it does explain it.

Two, Soren doesn’t presume. He doesn’t think that he deserves anything, so he makes no demands on Ike. You can tell how focused he is but he’s never overwhelming, never suffocating, never makes any emotional demands what-so-ever (when he does it’s usually Ike that comes after him and prompts it).

Then again there’s also a sort of third fact which is that he actually improves. He’s never super open and friendly but he does become less closed off so it’s fine.

Faye is annoying. Because, you know, the people you’re crushing on at 6 are the same people you’re crushing on at 16 especially in the face of overwhelming indifference, yep. Totally. Now I guess that maybe it’s because Ram is a small village and there’s not too many viable guys so she’s set her sights on Alm. And maybe the thing with the knights made that more prominent. I would buy that if, once they left, she realized that there’s LOTS of cute dudes her age and backed off a bit but that won’t happen So. She’s annoying, oops. 

The many difference between Faye and Camilla and Tharja is that her attentions are not focused on a character who is supposed to represent me. I don’t really like her, I feel bad that yet another has been claimed for this stupid trope, but at least I can tolerate her. But there’s no hope for the other two because they focus on the avatar and I will never, ever appreciate that.
