OKAY GOOD IS NOt just ME THAT FUCKING HATED THE WAY SHE WAS INTRODUCED LIKE??? Her body literally looks twisted in a way that it’s almost uncomfortable. Her intro could’ve been done in a much better way I agree

zldane replied to your post: zldane replied to your post: a reminder that I’m…

Her intro is actually reminiscent of a scene from final fantasy 4,
especially when it’s revealed/implies that fernand liked her as well,
giving us that short lived love triangle between the three. Certain
aspects of the game could’ve been done better but overall I actually
really love Echoes

It’s not just you!

I didn’t know about the scene in FF4, I don’t really venture out much beyond FE honestly!

I really love Echoes too! Honestly it’s in my top 3 FE games! But that doesn’t mean I won’t criticize the things they do wrong ahaha

Mathilda does have this urge to step back and not overshadow Clive while Clive is sitting in the background in a “Mathilda fanclub president” shirt constantly urging her to go be her amazing self.

Also Clive is very unsure about his leadership abilities.

I just feel like Mathilda would be, in the end, more likely to take over that kind of role with Clive’s full support.

zldane replied to your posta reminder that I’m still fucking livid about how…

Can I ask why! I love hearing about people’s opinions on games and how they handle things

Sure!

For her introduction, she’s in a prison cell (fine) but she’s literally kneeling in a T&A pose. A) that’s not how people tend to chill. B) she’s talking to someone who is a fellow knight (as far as she knows, one of her closest comrades), with whom she presumably shared a mutual respect. That is not how you greet an equal you think has come to rescue you.

Her being caged, submissive, and sexualized while Fernand is lording it over her really seems like some dumb fantasy of his and not reality. There was literally no legitimate reason to treat someone as vivacious, strong, and confident as Mathilda in that way, so it strikes me as a really bad choice.

In the rest of the game she’s flawless and I love her sooo much and would probably die for her. I think they did a good job with this awesome lady knight but her introduction was handled so poorly by comparison it makes me angry.

As for her ending…I feel like her and Clive’s endings should be switched, it would be much more in line with their personalities!

So my dumb ass just stumbled back into the Duma fight because I didn’t realize you could fight him after you’d already beaten him once (???) hey, game, I was just trying to get some experience I didn’t want a Hard Battle

Echoes:

Thoughts (no spoilers)

I’ve never played Gaiden so this was all new to me but it’s a truly fantastic game! There are some things I don’t like about it (Faye’s entire existence, that scene with Fernand and Mathilda, the fact that almost everyone is in unrequited love, the general dearth of supports) but those are minor things, really.

When I first began the game I thought it was fun, but I wasn’t sure it had the same kind of replay value that Blazing Sword does for me, but now I’ve changed my mind. Thanks to the dungeon system (which is fun!) it’s a bit cumbersome so I’ll never replay it with the same ease that I do Blazing Sword or Tellius or Awakening but I absolutely will replay it.

I love sooo many of the characters, especially the way they’re written – I’ve talked about that before but the character writing in this game is top notch. Of course the full voice acting brings this game together but even playing on silent the voices and personalities are so strong. The plot is typical to FE but the writing is definitely superior to some other offerings in the series so, well done there.

The voice acting is incredible, the battles are fun and challenging, the characters are amazing, the art and design are beautiful, and the soundtrack is great. Music-wise the last few games have been weak. And while I can’t actually remember the songs like I could with the GBA games, the music does fit really well and was integral to my enjoyment.

I like Alm and Celica having different world views, I think it was handled pretty well. Not like, perfect, but what is? I love having two armies, being able to switch stories when I want to.

I really like the mechanics in this game, I think they work perfectly. I love mages but I love the HP system for casting spells, I like the bow-range for archers, I like pretty much all the little things. I love that they talk to each other in battles, I love the battle animations, I love, I love, I love this game!

It’s weird that it feels nostalgic for me b/c I never played the original but it really does feel like an older FE game. After the last what, 4 games, I was sticking with the series as always but we could all feel it going downhill. But this is the best game to come out since Radiant Dawn. It’s as good as Tellius, as good as Blazing Sword.

I’m honestly blown away by the quality and overall enjoyment factor that this game brought to the table. It did remind me of the first time I played the older games, actually being eager to play and keep playing, playing until my system literally ran out of battery time and time again. Like the first time playing Tellius and just…cracking up over the dialogue and all of these lovable idiots.

This game is so good I kind of want to cry, honestly. I hope that IntSys can continue to bring this kind of quality to their games, because this really reaffirmed everything about why I love Fire Emblem in the first place.
