So anyway, the best thing was finding out that Sacae wasn’t based on Mongolians but on the Scythians (which were also called Saka or Sacae so maybe I should have figured that out)

but it does give me some ideas for culture and mmmm, clothing to pad out my headcanons about Lyn and Sue since the games don’t give us very much to go on.

BUT since Scythians were here, there, and everywhere in Asia, Eurasia, the Middle East, and India, it does lend a little credence to my “Lyn has dark skin” headcanon. She can, because why not? (even though by most sources they were more or less Caucasian with fair hair I’m rejecting that)

The half-brother:

I’m actually running with this as part of Lano Canon ™ so. Uther and Hector’s mom was from Toria (?) and Orun was her kid from her first marriage. It didn’t last long because of reasons (death). She made a political alliance marriage with their dad, but part of the marriage agreement was that Orun would be allowed to inherit her title and rule of Toria rather than making it a part of Ostian land.

After his death it became part of Ostia anyway.

Musings on Ostia:

Ostia holds the children of other territories as political hostages against their parents’ misbehavior (Eliwood, Erik, and Roy were all sent there “to study”, presumably Lyn would have been sent as well). This also gives them a chance to make the kids think positively on Ostia and its ruling family, or at least be impressed with the sheer military grandeur of the place, thus insuring another generation of loyal subservience.

Ostia is either less sexist than most of Lycia or Pherae is more (leaning towards the second) just based on how Hector and Eliwood treat women, specifically. But also the fact that both Lyn and Lilina seem to be accepted right off the bat as single female rulers without any expressed “need” to marry to keep control. Also Eliwood is the only one who tried to stop Lilina from fighting even though she was also trained to fight alongside Roy.

Erik and Eliwood both learned to fight while they were in Ostia. Hector, apparently, did not. Despite being in line for the throne of a fairly militant territory. I think according to some supports with Oswin (?) it mentioned that Hector often went to fight in the arena. So it’s less that Hector didn’t have an opportunity to fight and more the fact that he probably thought fencing was poncy and stupid so he skipped classes to go learn how to brawl in the fighting rings.

Headcanons:

I can’t remember if it said Roy and Lilina had been sent to Etruria or not so I assume that Cecilia was their instructor (in Ostia) before she was promoted to Mage General. She would have left her post upon appointment. Then again, Pent also was absent from Etruria for long periods of time so maybe the Mage General is just allowed to do whatever.

cons of Binding Blade: the sage critical (aka the best critical in the whole series am I right?) doesn’t have the sound effect for the three initial dots like Blazing Sword does thus making it an inferior game by default
