So Cyneria was defeated because they offered her a choice: Helgi said if she surrendered then the king was sure to pardon her.

Of course since she so regretted her choice to become a witch, and the choice to go back was what she wanted, that was enough for her to feel something and now she’s defeated.

oh damn they defeated Cyneria and we still have 100 pages to go holy shit

Like Etheria, she used to be an apprentice scientist. Unlike Etheria, she chose to become a witch, thinking it would enable her to get the answers to all of her many questions. It was only afterwards that she realized what she had lost in order to get her answers and begin to regret her choice (but of course by then it was too late).
