I’m still stary-eyed over my luck yesterday…all four CYL units and Julia what the fuck

I’ve been getting caught up on NCIS and ever since Ziva left the show’s really been, well, not as good.
It’s not even that I don’t like Bishop (which I don’t, I think she’s boring as shit) but really now. Three back to back terrorism arcing plots? None of them are handled interestingly, and at this point it’s feeling very much like they’re killing off characters for shock value rather than to actually accomplish anything.
Of the three the Sergei plotline was the best but even that one completely drops the ball and has an extremely unsatisfying and anticlimactic ending that didn’t fit the emotional build-up of the arc.
don’t mind me I’m just disgruntled.
season 11-15 definitely aren’t as good and part of the problem is there’s not stability within the team. I don’t mind Bishop (though I respect your opinion to dislike her) and s11-s13 were at least slightly consistent, but s14-s16 (I know 16 hasn’t happened yet) are pretty unstable cast-wise. So much disruption really makes it hard for me to enjoy it.
I can definitely see that. I just got to season 13 and it looks to be more of the same so far.
From a writer’s perspective, it seems like they’re losing the ability to write actual good, over-arcing plots while simultaneously coming to rely on them more and more, which leaves a revolving door cast of accidents and deaths as the only alternative for the emotional impact that ought to be coming from the story itself. I don’t know if their writing staff just changed, or they’re getting tired, or what.
And since we literally went from Parsa to Sergei to the Calling/Budd to whoever the fuck it is this time, I’m definitely getting a bit unimpressed and disinterested.
Unless the show makes a sharp upturn later on, on subsequent rewatches I’m going to treat Ziva leaving the team as the last episode, because nothing that’s happened since has interested me.
There are a few interesting episodes here and there. 13 doesn’t bother me as much as it used to. I’ve been watching live since around 2004 so when everythiNg FIRST happened it was so fresh and raw that I couldn’t focus on much, plus I was in high school/college and my actual life was way more than anything on NCIS (because life and teenagers, ya know). But last summer I did a s7-s13 rewatch with my mom and I find that I don’t mind 12 and 13. 14 though… I’m so sorry. It’s shit in my opinion. 15 isn’t horrible, but it’s also not great.
I can’t see them doing much– if any– more after this next 16 seasons. Although part of me wants there to be a 17th season just so this clip from the Simpsons can happen.
Yeah there are a few! I loved Tony ‘lost’ in Europe with the party kids. But they haven’t been strong enough to carry the seasons so far.
I’ve been watching NCIS since middle school but took a big break once I went to college because I didn’t have easy access to TV. Going into them now for the first time, much older, well. Maybe if I had seen these back in the day I wouldn’t have minded but it’s not enough for what I expect out of a show I watch.
14 seems like it’s going to be a slog then. Oh boy…
At some point you just run out of stuff and should wrap it up with a nice conclusion instead of going on forever, but it’s the highest grossing show so they’re gonna milk it til they can’t anymore.
That’s also true. Really more shows should just start with an actual ending point in mind and then stick with it, rather than trying to drag it out forever and ever…if they did that then less people would get sick and tired of those same shows. Plus, you can always play reruns!

I updated this again so I thought I would share!
I think it’s nice to keep track of word counts like this. It helps a lot when I’m feeling discouraged to see how much I’ve done, even though so little of it is “usable”. Every draft taught me something different, and that’s far more important.
I’m reblogging this here because I’m proud of it.
