Not gonna lie, I love how devoted you are to carefully proving your point.
I’m glad people enjoy it! I’m not really interested in getting into Discourse™ but when you can feel something is unbalanced sometimes you just have to figure out how.
And if I’m interested in it, I figured other people would be too LOL
It’s time, once again, to use MATH to find out how mad I should be. Please feel free to use these statistics as you see fit.
Going by Heroes own categories here (though I might split it up differently). I’ve counted male and female versions as different heroes in regards to alts. I have not included the “original” version of a character in the alt count, so alts are literally just extra.
I counted Inigo/Laslow and young/old Tiki as different characters for simplicity’s sake.
Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are two different categories in the game but I counted them as one because there’s too much overlap.
Also I haven’t summoned Ishtar so I just guessed and lumped her in with Genealogy.
Heroes Original: 8 characters, 6 original and 2 alts.
Shadow Dragon/Mystery: 36 characters, 30 original and 6 alts.
Valentia: 19 characters, 17 original and 2 alts.
Genealogy: 19 characters, no alts
Thracia: 8 characters, 6 original and 2 alts.
Binding Blade: 17 characters, 14 original and 3 alts.
Blazing Sword: 32 characters, 22 original and 10 alts.
Sacred Stones: 18 characters, 13 original and 5 alts.
Path of Radiance/ Radiant Dawn: 19 characters, 14 original and 5 alts.
Awakening: 51 characters, 28 original and 23 alts.
Fates: 66 characters, 44 original and 22 alts.
293 characters over all, 213 original and 80 alts.
Percentage of original v alt characters: 73% are original and 27% are alts.
Percentage of “old” v “new” characters originals and alts:
Out of the original characters, 37% of them are from Heroes, Awakening, and Fates. 63% are from the older games.
Out of the alts, 59% are from the new games. 41% are from the older games.
The overall percentage of old v new characters: 43% are from new games and 57% are from older games.
What games to be mad about:
Heroes and Thracia each have 3% of total characters.
Valentia, Genealogy, Binding Blade, Sacred Stones, and Tellius each have 6%.
Blazing Sword has 11%.
Archanea has 12%.
Awakening has 17%.
Fates has 23%.
Final thoughts:
On the surface this looks a lot better than the 66% new, 33% old split that existed the last time I did this. I do like having a lot of characters from the older games! However I don’t really like alts, so having them, and having them be so weighted towards Awakening and Fates makes me mad.
I also think when you look at the games individual percentages, you can see how unfairly split they are. You can use these stats however you see fit but I want more characters from Genealogy, Binding Blade, and Tellius!
So @homestuck-and-the-monomyth brought up that it would be interesting to compare the cast size in Heroes to the cast size of the original game so here we go!
I used the Choose Your Legend poll options to get Every Possible Option so this isn’t by playable character count. That ended up being too hard to figure out! There are no repeat characters in these counts other than the Awakening/Fates bullshit and the Black Knight (because I counted him as two by accident earlier oops). I do account for male/female options as separate.
Heroes: 14 characters. 43%.
Archanea: 89 characters. 34%.
Valentia: 54 characters. 31%.
Genealogy: 83 characters. 23%.
Thracia: 53 characters. 11%
Binding Blade: 60 characters. 23%.
Blazing Sword: 48 characters. 46%.
Sacred Stones: 43 characters. 30%.
Path of Radiance/ Radiant Dawn: 94 characters. 15%.
Awakening: 54 characters. 52%.
Fates: 82 characters. 54%
Old games overall: 481 options, 121 characters, 25% of their total casts.
New games overall: 150 options, 78 characters, 52% of their total casts.

I’d be curious to look at overall cast size of each game as compared to the amount of original characters from each game as well. Just to see which games’ overall casts are most and least represented
OH HELL YEAH.
That’s a good idea! Let me take a look. This part will take longer because I’ll have to manually compare rosters so I’ll try to get it up by sometime tomorrow.
I mean, one of my friends uses a spreadsheet to track all of her builds and IVs, so you don’t seem that weird at this point.
Yeah the IVs are too much for me because I plain don’t care LOL
I really just keep track of hero merit, who I’ve summoned, who I want, and the percentages
you might be thinking “Lano, what the fuck” but this is just what I do when I’m bored at work.
I like spreadsheets and keeping track of stuff and Heroes gives me the Perfect Outlet

I just want Erk u.u
Me being the petty bitch I am, I keep track of all the characters I like (in order) and whether they’re in the game yet or not:

Color-coded so I can give them the appropriate hearts when/if they are added and I summon them.
