So not the playroom, but The Room Of Forgotten Things. Mai Nominata has banned the witches from entering this room, which means a lot of this stuff must be theirs, from when they were human.

The toys probably still belonged to the nameless prince, unless one of our remaining four ladies had a child?

They’re only in here now looking for intruders (Yara and Samah naturally, though the witches don’t know that yet.)

And while Mai Nominata is giving our last three witches a verbal lecture about how feelings make you weak, Yara is having the time of her fucking life dicking about their castle

Samah is probably having slightly less fun given that she has to make sure Yara doesn’t get them both killed (but I think she’s having fun too)

Anyway I have a lot to say about the witches given that they were all teenagers or young women when they became witches

and despite the fact that colorless magic is all about change, the witches – having given up human emotion and memories – are fundamentally incapable of change themselves

and even if they wanted to change (like Acquaria did) Mai Nominata will never allow it

But by holding them so tightly under her clutches, she essentially stops them from being able to grow either as people or as witches which renders them unable to act at their full power and hence they can be defeated easily

it’s also why almost every scene between the witches by themselves has like stupid, petty teenage drama – they literally are not able to remove themselves from this mindset

ugh Tea how can your books be so stupid and yet so good at the same time???

So Etheria and Cyneria are at each others’ throats in the most petty way possible:

Basically Cyneria complains that Etheria gives herself airs to which Etheria replies “of course I do I’m the witch of storms, duh” (groan) and then Cyneria gets really petty and burns some shit and tells Etheria to use her magic for something useful for once and clean up the mess

so Etheria blows all the ash right back into Cyneria’s face, which she didn’t see coming somehow.

…Cyneria has been so temperamental ever since her girlfriend got defeated.

Sulfurea tried to stop them and then Mai Nominata showed up so we’ll see what she has to say about it.

Actually it’s interesting because it specifically says that Acquaria’s followers “walked away sadly”. While the rest of the books have lead us to believe that their henchmen are unwittingly transformed, is it possible they’re actually willing servants? At least in some cases, perhaps.
